Employed as an Architectural Technician since 1986, I have worked for numerous companies both large and small. During my career I have worked both as part of a team and individually to deliver the necessary drawings, details and documentation needed for a variety of building projects, clients, etc. As part of this I have had regular use of a variety of computer programs, enabling me to become proficient in a number of AutoCAD, graphics and Microsoft packages. I have also been teaching myself to use a web design package and have enroled on a college course to give me a recognised City & Guilds qualification in web design.
After working in architecture for many years and gaining considerable skills, knowledge and qualifications I am now enjoying being more involved in the local community through my voluntary work. I have gained many transferble skills through both employed and voluntary work which I feel I can apply to other employment.
In my role as Secretary of the Village Fete Committee I have regular dealings with Borough and County Council departments, liaising with them to aid the smooth running of the fete. As part of the fete committee team we work together to deliver the annual fete to the local and surrounding community. On my own initiative I have also been responsible for preparing minutes of meetings, advertising and publicity materials, also liaising with local media to promote the fete. My involvement within the committee gives me the opportunity to work with other volunteers from the community ensuring all council policies and procedures are adhered to, therefore ensuring health and safety procedures are met and implemented to ensure the safety of the volunteers and public that attend on the day of the fete.
Following a local radio appeal I volunteered my architectural input to help produce drawings for a local authority approval and to aid the construction of a memroial garden at Alcester, in memory of four Warwickshire fire-fighters. For this I had to liaise with the memorial committee, made up of relatives, family members and colleagues of the deceased fire-fighters. This was a challenging project which needed considerable sensitivity and compassion to ensure the relatives wishes and expectations were met. My work enabled the families, friends and local community to have a place to remember the four fire-fighters.
I have gained considerable skills through both employment and voluntary work, many of these skills transferable into different work environments. I am an honest and reliable person with exemplory attendance records, who can work independantly and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. |
